Building Whimsical Wearables: Leveling Up Through Playful Prototyping

More information available at https://hackaday.io/superconference/

Take a journey with me through the process of conceptualizing and building my Color Stealing Fairy project (https://www.gellacraft.com/colorfairy), an exercise in iterative design and upgrading an interactive wearable project over the course of two years and counting. This project gave me opportunities to teach myself Fusion 360, push my programming and hardware skills further through the use of open source tools and resources, and an eventual goal of custom pcb design to make the project easy for others to reproduce.

Through modifying existing accessories (‘fashion hacking’), designing custom 3D printed parts, and a generous helping of hot glue, I’ve created a project that is just as fun to build and rebuild as it is to wear and interact with. In this talk I will provide some tips for getting started with your own whimsical projects and my favorite resources for makers who are eager to get started in combining electronics with costuming and accessories.
